Trip highlights
- The Valley of the kings: The Valley of the Kings showcases the magnificent architecture used for royal burials, serving as the final resting place for many pharaohs. The most well-known tombs include those of Thutmose I, Thutmose III, Tutankhamun, Ramses VI, Merenptah, and Amenhotep II.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari: Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, known as Deir el-Bahari, was built by the powerful ruler herself, the daughter of Thutmose I. As the only female pharaoh of ancient Egypt, she reigned for approximately 20 years during the 18th Dynasty (1490–1469 B.C.), leaving behind one of Egypt’s most stunning architectural masterpieces.
- Colossi of Memnon: The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, standing at the entrance of his long-lost mortuary temple in Luxor. These towering statues, each approximately 18 meters (59 feet) tall, have stood for over 3,400 years. Ancient Greeks believed they 'sang' at dawn due to a natural phenomenon.
- Luxer Temple: Luxor Temple was commissioned by Amenhotep III in the 18th Dynasty and later completed by Ramesses II in the 19th Dynasty, who reigned for an impressive 67 years. This magnificent monument is dedicated to the Theban Triad—Amun-Ra, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. Don't miss the Obelisk of Ramesses II, which stands proudly in front of the first pylon.
- Karnak Temple: Considered one of history’s greatest expressions of devotion, this magnificent temple was dedicated to Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. Constructed over centuries—from the early Middle Kingdom through the Graeco-Roman era—it stands as a timeless symbol of ancient Egyptian religious heritage.
